Preventive Dentistry

Preventive Dental Care Your Family Can Rely On

Being proactive has long-term benefits.

Keeping your child’s smile bright.

Preventive care helps to create good dental habits that will last a lifetime. It leaves a long-lasting impact on your child, so they can experience optimum health and well-being in the long term. At Pediatric Dental Specialists, we offer high-quality, consistent care for children of all ages. We take the time to get to know your child and your family. Our goal is to become your trusted partner in your child’s dental care.

Professional Dental Cleanings

Regular check-ups and cleanings help to prevent minor dental problems from becoming major issues in the future. A professional clean can also target areas unable to be cleaned properly with a toothbrush. At your child’s appointment, our expert team will remove the plaque that can build up over time and check for any tooth decay, gum problems, or other issues.

Fillings

PREVENTING FURTHER DAMAGE FROM DECAY AND CAVITIES.

Fillings are a very common and proactive treatment for decay and cavities. Even if your kids brush their teeth regularly, they may at some point need a filling. Pediatric Dental Specialists offer tooth-colored fillings. A tooth-colored filling protects the teeth from further decay. Tooth-colored fillings are preferred because they will match the existing teeth perfectly, giving your child extra confidence in their smile.

Mouthguards

CUSTOM-MADE FOR OPTIMUM COMFORT.

Mouth guards help to keep your child’s teeth safe when they play contact sports. They can also help to absorb the impact if your child experiences an injury to the mouth, which can prevent major jaw damage. At Pediatric Dental Specialists, we custom-make mouth guards to suit your child. This gives you (and them) peace of mind and it means they can enjoy their sporting activities and protect their teeth at the same time. A custom mouth guard will also fit better, which provides your child with better protection and a more comfortable experience.

Sealants

Keeping young smiles healthy.

Sealants are a thin protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of a child’s molars and premolars. The molars’ and premolars’ natural surfaces are uneven and food particles and bacteria can get stuck in the grooves, which can cause decay. Sealants can be applied when your child’s permanent molars emerge. This is typically between the ages of 6-12 years old. They will protect the teeth and reduce the risk of decay.

Pulp Therapy

Restoring and saving young teeth.

The pulp is in the center of a tooth and it consists of tissue, blood vessels, and nerves. Pulp therapy is sometimes necessary when there is damage to this inner tissue, or when it is infected or inflamed. Treatment focuses on removing the damaged soft tissue, restoring the tooth, and preventing the need for extraction. Anesthesia and sedation can be used to keep your child comfortable during treatment if required.

Crowns

REINFORCEMENT TO KEEP TEETH STRONG.

Crowns are used to repair and reinforce a damaged tooth or large cavity. They can be used to preserve baby teeth or permanent teeth. Pediatric Dental Specialists offer two options for crowns — stainless steel or tooth-colored crowns. Stainless steel crowns are very strong and are an ideal choice for molars. Tooth-colored crowns are ideal for front teeth, as they will match perfectly with your child’s natural teeth color.

Extraction

GENTLE TOOTH REMOVAL BY EXPERTS.

Saving teeth is always our top priority. But if a tooth has major decay or if it’s broken beyond repair, an extraction might be necessary. Your child’s comfort is important to us and we offer options for anesthesia and sedation to help them relax. Our expert team members are specialists in children’s dental care and you can trust we’ll make sure your child is as comfortable as possible during treatment.

Pediatric Partial Dentures

Boosting self-esteem and happy smiles.

A partial denture (aka kiddy partial) not only replaces a missing baby tooth, but it also prevents the surrounding teeth from shifting into the gap. This ensures the normal structure of the teeth and mouth can be maintained and it prevents any impact on speech development. Partial dentures are custom-made, so they will fit perfectly and comfortably for your child. Dentures will also blend in with your child’s natural teeth to keep their smile shining bright.

Sedation

Reducing dental anxiety with sedation.

If your child suffers from dental-related anxiety, Pediatric Dental Specialists offers options for sedation to make them more comfortable during treatment. Sedation is useful when extensive or invasive dental treatment is necessary to keep children calm and relaxed. Nitrous oxide—or as we like to call it laughing gas—is available in-office. General anesthesia is available for children unable to tolerate treatment in a traditional dental setting. Your dentist will discuss the various options with you, so you can make an informed decision for your child.
